The first one, with the stars and circles was for my brother who turned 19 last month. It’s a 28 cm filled with bonbonbloc-praline-filling and a 20cm filled with toblerone-filling on top of the 28cm cake. I thought there would be many friends celebrating his birthday with him, so I made a BIG cake. Unfortunately only 3 people came on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. They throw a lot of it away.

The second cake is for my boyfriend, who’s celebrating his 20th birthday tomorrow. I made a 28 cm filled with after-eight (I tried to make a filling from Mars candybars, but that didn’t work out) and put a 20cm with toblerone on it. I decorated it with circle’s and a sort of replica from his car (He has a car that is supposed to be red, but it’s a reddish pink now). I had no time to make it really nice and smooth, but it’s quite O.K.

At last I made a cake for my mom who gave it to her friend who’s celebrating her 45th birthday today. I spend 3 hours making the roses and I really love them! They’re so sweet! I guess my next cake will be covered with little roses.

My parents and brothers doesn’t want to eat cakes every two weeks, so I can’t make a cake that often. Luckily my brother soon turns 19, so guess what I will give to him… But before I make that masterpiece (I’ll try to make a two layer cake!) I really needed some practising. Today I tried a new recipe for the biscuit and made Toblerone filling. I’m not that enthusiast about the result, but it’s a start. Next time I must make more biscuit dough, because this doesn’t look like a cake. It’s 20 cm in diameter and just 3 of 4 centimetres high…

Two weeks ago I bought some new cutters, but they’re still in Ede.  I tried to do some decoration with glasses, bottles and so on. Because I’m running out of marzipan I didn’t have that much choice with the colours, but the result isn’t that bad.

So: pink and white fondant (It’s supposed to look like marble..) with pink, purple and yellow marzipan circles.

After church friends of my parents and their four kids came over for some decorating and tasting..  I covered the bokkepootjes cake  white fondant, de other with pink fondant M made with her red colorant. After that it was time to decorate with five kids: my brother J(11), and C (9), W(8), S (8) and R (7, if I’m correct). It was a mess and every one was covered with fondant en mazipan in stead of the cake, but we had so much fun! It are real kidscakes and that’s the most important thing.

It was heaven and hell. And pink.

It is a pretty, lovely shop with many things to make cakes and cupcakes. Accept the things I really really needed. Umh. wanted. But the biggest problem: it’s expensive. And when I say expensive I mean EXPENSIVE! They only have exclusive stuff or whatever there reason is for being pricy, so I paid more than €6 for less than 400 grams of pink marzipan. WOW!  I couldn’t find I smaller piece..

I promised to make a pink sweet sixteen cake for J. When I saw the prizes of pink fondant I decides it would be a white -also expensive, but I guess I’ll use white more than pink. I’m not a pink lover- cake with pink decorations. That’s why I bought pink marzipan. But asap I’m going to experiment with blanc marzipan and at home colouring. I also bought a smoother, a tool which is handy when you’re putting the fondant on the cake. The result was stunning. Not bad for a second time, etc. etc.

In my head I made a fantastic cake that looked amazing and professional. Back down to earth I had a inimini little BIG  problem: the fridge hasn’t done anything good to the cake. It was horrible. Beyond horrible. I found out that biscuit with after eight filling doesn’t do so well in the fridge. But as my bro’ said: you learn from every mistake. This won’t happen again. And he still wanted to eat it. I hope he’ll survive.

Covered with fondant it doesn’t look that bad, though it’s an a-symmetric nightmare. But I wish I had more time to do it again. I’m going to practice a lot. Starting tomorrow, with making a new cake for Sunday after church.

Update: I saw what they wrote on it. It was not that bad, just her name and some ’16′.  And a penis ‘because they didn’t know anything else to decorate the cake with.  URGH!

The fondant was really a crime. I had just 500gr white fondant, while I needed a minimum of 750 (according to a website). I bought some table canvas so I didn’t need powder sugar, but the canvas was way too big. My fondant was such a mess when I finally got it on the cake.  It was possible to cover it up with marzipan. I guess it will go a lot better next time.

So here is my first cake. 20 big flowers, because tonight I’ll be celebrating my 20th birthday for some friends.
